— The Maker, Koshur Chaan Woodworking
The Process
Every board, built right.
1
Wood Selection
Only premium-grade hardwood slabs make the cut — inspected for grain, figure, and structural integrity.
2
Milling & Joinery
Boards are precision-milled flat, then joined and glued with food-safe wood glue under even clamping pressure.
3
Progressive Sanding
Each board is hand-sanded through multiple grits — from 80 up to 220 — for a surface that feels like silk.
4
Food-Safe Finish
Three to four coats of food-safe mineral oil, hand-rubbed and allowed to cure fully between applications.

Meet the Maker
Built by hand. Made with purpose.
Koshur Chaan Woodworking was founded by a healthcare professional who spent years serving veterans — learning firsthand what it means to show up with precision, care, and genuine dedication to quality.
Woodworking became a natural extension of that same ethos. Each board is shaped, sanded, and finished with the same deliberate attention — no corners cut, no detail overlooked.
Based in Johns Creek, Georgia, every piece is made by hand in small batches. Not because it’s faster, but because that’s the only way to ensure it’s right.

Wood Species
Understanding Hardwood Cutting Boards
Choosing the right hardwood can make a significant difference in appearance, durability, and long-term performance.
Walnut
Walnut is prized for its rich chocolate tones and timeless appearance. It offers excellent durability while bringing warmth and elegance to kitchens and serving spaces. Walnut is often chosen for premium cutting boards and heirloom-quality gifts because of its striking grain patterns and natural beauty.
Maple
Maple has long been one of the most trusted hardwoods for cutting boards. Its light color, fine grain, and excellent durability make it a favorite among home cooks and professional kitchens alike. Maple offers a clean, bright appearance while standing up well to everyday use.
Cherry
Cherry is known for its warm reddish tones that naturally deepen and become richer over time. This aging process creates character and uniqueness that many woodworkers and homeowners appreciate. Cherry boards are often selected for decorative serving boards and meaningful gifts.

The Case for Hardwood
Why Hardwood Makes a Better Cutting Board
Not all cutting boards are created equal. Premium hardwoods such as walnut, maple, and cherry provide a balance of durability, stability, and beauty that softer woods cannot match.
Properly constructed hardwood boards help resist excessive wear while remaining gentle on kitchen knives. With routine maintenance, a quality hardwood board can provide decades of reliable service.
Unlike disposable kitchen products, a handcrafted hardwood board develops character over time and can often be refreshed and maintained for years rather than replaced.
Our Promise
Heirloom quality. Every board.
Three commitments that shape every piece made at Koshur Chaan Woodworking.
Food-Safe, Always
Every board is finished exclusively with food-safe mineral oil and board butter. No varnish, lacquer, polyurethane, or any non-food-safe coating — ever. What touches your food is clean.
Built for Decades
A properly cared-for Koshur Chaan board is designed to remain in excellent daily service for twenty to forty years. Heirloom longevity is the construction goal, not a marketing claim.
Premium Hardwoods Only
American black walnut, hard maple, and American cherry — selected in person for grain, density, and structural integrity. Premium materials as a baseline standard, not an upsell.
